What does Stalin mean to British Revolutionary Youth?

Comrade Gary, from Red Youth and the NW region of the CPGB-ML delivers a message to the CPGB-ML’s celebration of the 98th anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution – held on November 7th 2015 in Saklatvala Hall, Southall.

Although many achievements of the USSR inspire us today, says Gary, he wants to concentrate on one man, dear to all our hearts, who still causes a flutter of controversy today – the scourge of the bourgeoisie, Joseph Vassarianovich Stalin!

Stalin was a man who refused to desert Moscow when the Nazi hordes were at the gates! He quotes from Stalin’s speech, given on the 24th anniversary of the October revolution in 1941, in Red Square, to a military parade of brave Red Army soldiers who marched from that rally directly to confront the German Fascist invaders.

Stalin’s remarkable speech was delivered at the height of the battle of Moscow, some 74 years ago, when the Nazi’s were yet to be defeated and many in Europe pronounced them to be ‘invincible’. His speech steeled the entire Soviet people for the long and bitter struggle, and inspired them with confidence in the righteousness of our cause:

“A great mission of liberation has fallen to you: be worthy of this mission!

“The war you fight is a war of liberation. It is a just war!”

His whole speech can be seen here:

Comrades – that war WAS a just war! The people of the Soviet Union, under the leadership of the CPSUB – the Bolsheviks! – led tirelessly and heroically by JV Stalin, fought against the most aggressive and powerful imperialist army ever assembled, and showed that working people, united under the banner of Marxism-Leninism, having overthrown their exploiters and built upon their triumphant socialist revolution a modern industry and army, can face any obstacle and triumph.

We communists disdain to conceal our views and aims. We openly declare that our ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions. We openly pledge our allegiance to the Dictatorship of the proletariat, and to defend its mighty achievements and historic record!

Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communistic revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win!

Long live the memory and example of the great and glorious Soviet Union!

Long live the memory and example of the great and glorious Bolshevik party!

Long live the memory and example of the great and glorious defender and friend of the international proletariat, Joseph Stalin!
