Soviet Man – Hero of the Revolution

Comrade Rob Amos, from the Southwest region of the CPGB-ML, reads the moving poem ‘Soviet Man’ to comrades at the CPGB-ML’s celebration of the 98th anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution – held on November 7th 2015 in Saklatvala Hall, Southall.

Both the poem itself and the brief biographical sketch of the poet (Original Proletarian article: http://www.cpgb-ml.org/index.php?secName=proletarian&subName=display&art=1165) illustrate as clearly as any lecture just what the revolution meant to the working classes of the USSR – and why the Soviet Union was such a beacon to the oppressed masses all over the world. Venezuela: Where now for the Bolivarian Revolution?

Comrade Marcus Garcia , from the Venezuelan Embassy delivers a message to the CPGB-ML’s celebration of the 98th anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution – held on November 7th 2015 in Saklatvala Hall, Southall.

Cde Garcia delivers this message before the defeat of Nicholas Maduro’s PSUV at the recent Legislative Assembley elections of 6 December, which has led Maduro to call for a class offensive against the Venezuelan Bourgeoisie, who are always ready to sell the interests of their country to the US imperialists, in their desire to protect their relative privilege and do down the working and peasant masses of their country. Support Syria – Support Assad! [The message you are not supposed to see]

Our young British Syrian Palestinian comrade, Yanal, from Red Youth and the Midlands region of the CPGB-ML delivers a message to the CPGB-ML’s celebration of the 98th anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution – held on November 7th 2015 in Saklatvala Hall, Southall.

Syria is a touchy subject it seems. The text of our comrade’s speech was previously posted on this blog, and is reproduced below. We have once again had members banned for posting the video of his speech on facebook, as we previously experienced with members pasting the party’s excellent statement on Syria, and British Bombing campaign: http://www.cpgb-ml.org/index.php?secName=statements&subName=display&statementId=57

So what is it you are not supposed to be seeing? What is our ruling class afraid of? Decide for yourself (and paste it to facebook! how many of us can be banned?):

“On behalf of Red Youth I wish to express in this meeting our solidarity with the Syrian Arab Army and the Russian Armed forces in their fight against the wicked designs of imperialism in Syria! Continue reading “Support Syria – Support Assad! [The message you are not supposed to see]”

What does Stalin mean to British Revolutionary Youth?

Comrade Gary, from Red Youth and the NW region of the CPGB-ML delivers a message to the CPGB-ML’s celebration of the 98th anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution – held on November 7th 2015 in Saklatvala Hall, Southall.

Although many achievements of the USSR inspire us today, says Gary, he wants to concentrate on one man, dear to all our hearts, who still causes a flutter of controversy today – the scourge of the bourgeoisie, Joseph Vassarianovich Stalin!

Stalin was a man who refused to desert Moscow when the Nazi hordes were at the gates! He quotes from Stalin’s speech, given on the 24th anniversary of the October revolution in 1941, in Red Square, to a military parade of brave Red Army soldiers who marched from that rally directly to confront the German Fascist invaders. Anti-war and anti-imperialism: where Stop the War fails

Anti-war demonstrations against British airstrikes in Syria took place across the country on Saturday (12/12/2015), with a march in London, attended by thousands, taking place from BBC Broadcasting House to a rally outside Downing St. The anger was palpable, and rightly so. After a brief stall when Cameron’s previous attempts to openly bomb Syria were frustrated by intense opposition to constant war, a lynchpin of British imperialism, the recent terrorist atrocities in Paris were cynically used to get the green light for airstrikes in the region.

Syria demo, Assad portrait

“It is very clear tonight that while the House has not passed a motion it is clear to me that the British Parliament, reflecting the views of the British people, does not want to see British military action.”

David Cameron, July 2015

With recent reports of coalition airstrikes hitting a Syrian Arab Army position in Deir ez-Zor, the real motives are as clear as ever. Despite Western heads of state openly admitting they have no hope of defeating terrorists in the region unless they work with Assad, they refuse to do so. Western airstrikes are still not being coordinated with the Syrian government and they seem to have little effect. The Russian strikes however, which are seriously pushing back ISIL/Daesh, are coordinated fully with the Syrian Arab Army.

Junior Doctor’s Strike postponed: We voted for action, so why have we fallen at the first hurdle?

We’ve given up the strike. The government have agreed to nothing. At best we’re delaying the inevitable, but we are also loosing the initiative.

Hunt’s pledge not to impose a contract is “time limited”. So he’ll do it later, when a more opportune moment presents itself.
Hunt’s statement in parliament was positively aggressive, asserting that “reforming both the consultants’ and junior doctor contracts is a key part of the mix.” Indicating his intention to expand, rather than diminish his attacks on NHS medical staff. So why have we called off the strike?

Paris terror attacks: further proof that we need to overthrow imperialism

IMPORTANT STATEMENT of the CPGB-ML on the Paris attacks:latuff_paris

Jihadi terrorism is the bastard child of the union between blind religious fanaticism and imperialist market fundamentalism.

On the evening of Friday 13 November, a group of terrorists armed with kalashnikovs and wearing suicide belts launched coordinated assaults on six targets in Paris, killing 129 innocent people and injuring 350 others, 100 of them critically. According to eye-witness accounts, these attacks were professionally coordinated, meticulously planned and executed with cold-blooded disregard for human life. Eight of the terrorists were also killed.

The targets included the Bataclan concert hall, where 89 young people attending a performance by an American metal band were cut down in the prime of their lives; Stade de France, where a friendly football match between Germany and France was underway; Le Comptoir Voltaire restaurant and other bars and cafés.

The Islamic State (IS), also known as Isis, Isil or Daesh, has taken responsibility for the carnage in Paris, claiming: “This is only the start of the storm.” (IS claims responsibility, calling Paris attacks ‘start of the storm’ by Frank Camp,Independent Journal, 14 November 2015)

Progressive people will resolutely condemn the Paris tragedy. It is clear that there is no reason for anyone, except the crazed jihadis, to gloat over such a senseless massacre, for the action of its perpetrators, far from being an expression of anti-imperialist defiance, merely serves to strengthen the imperialist agenda of repression at home and war abroad.

Our own government, for example, having failed to win approval for all-out war against Syria in 2013, is bent upon using the attacks in Paris as a justification for resuscitating the debate and trying once more to gain parliamentary approval for the full-scale bombing of Syria.

Dialectical & Historical Materialism – The philosophy of Marx

You may have heard people say that “Marx’s ideas are beautiful in theory, but they don’t work in practice“? It is almost universally the case that poeple who express this opinion have not read Marx – and have little or no understanding of his real philosophy.

At our recent study school, held on November 8 2015, the day after we celebrated the 98th anniversary of the October Revolution, Ranjeet Brar, member of the CPGB-ML gave the above presentation that we now present in video form. We hope it will go some way towards redressing the balance. An outline of the substance of the presentation can be found in the text below.
