Message of solidarity from Yanal Abourabbi on behalf of Red Youth to the Syrian masses, Syrian Arab Army and the Russian Armed forces

On behalf of Red Youth I wish to express in this meeting our solidarity with the Syrian Arab Army and the Russian Armed forces in their fight against the wicked designs of imperialism in Syria! The Syrian Arab Army and the Russian armed forces are the main forces that are truly fighting ISIS and the Zio-wahabi entities which came to Syria to destroy the only nation in the Middle East that stood up against US imperialism and its proxy the fascist Israeli Zionist state.

Chinese Premier Xi Jinping visits London

Picture1  On 19th October 2015, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and first lady Peng Liyuan arrived in London; this is the first visit by a Chinese President to the UK in ten years. Red youth and CPGB-ML member Jackson went to welcome president Xi at his ceremonial parade in the Mall, and having witnessed the event and the media Frenzy to portray the occasion as an anti-chinese protest, he gives us his report on the occasion.

A lot has happened in world politics in the last ten years, and China’s importance in the world has seemingly increased immensely, this is in no small part due to China’s enormous economic growth, China has within the last decade overtaken Japan to become the world’s second biggest economy, has overtaken the USA as the world’s biggest trading nation and is on course to overtake the USA in terms of GDP within the coming years.

China has also within these past ten years strengthened its opposition to US world hegemony- for example via the development and expansion of the BRICS group, the Shanghai Co-operation organisation (with Ex-Soviet states), investment in African countries and support for the African Union and on multiple occasions, opposing US plans for attacks on the Syrian Arab Republic in the United Nations, using its UNSC veto along with Russia.

On the 20th October 2015, President Xi, on his visit to the UK oversaw the Horse Guards parade and was taken on a ceremonial trip up the mall with the Queen. Flanking both sides of the mall were red Chinese banners, which phrases like “Hello, Xi Jinping!” and “Welcome Papa Xi!” The well-wishers, comprising of Chinese students studying in UK universities, Chinese community organisations and the general public, numbered in the thousands and there was a carnival like atmosphere with traditional Chinese lion dancers, musical performances and singing.

A conversation with Billy Vincent – British Communist

“People knew me: they’d say that’s Billy Vincent – communist.”

These were the closing words of a moving and insightful conversation we had with our comrade William Hunt-Vincent, a dedicated CPGB and CPGB-ML cadre who sadly died from cancer last year.

“All of his life, William Hunt-Vincent has been a working man who sweated at the forge or was frozen fixing chains to the gib heads of cranes in hail storms. Always he has admired people who would work hard to advance in the world.”

Ranjeet and Jackson, from CPGB-ML and Red Youth. We went to meet Billy the day after attending the Durham Miners Gala, on a Sunday morning in July 2013.

We are saddened that we did not publish the interview in Billy’s lifetime. That was our avowed intention – and Billy gave us explicit permission to film and publish our discussion. But we are proud to present it now, so that young workers, from the Northeast and throughout Britain, can learn from his words of wisdom, and reflections on working class life and struggle during his eight decades living in Sunderland.

No Pasaran in Wigan!

On 19 September the National Front held a demonstration in Wigan against immigration and the recent refugee crisis. Prior to this demonstration their local organiser, Daniel Lewis, called for homosexuals to be gassed in response to the Manchester gay pride festival.

The National Front was met by counter-protesters from parties such as the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist), Left Unity, SWP, and other organisations were present such as Hope Not Hate.

Harlow TUC calls for support for Cllr Forman

wpid-wp-1441394311789

Red Youth reproduces here the letter we have received from Harlow Trades Council and we call on our local comrades to attend the demonstration called in support of comrade Waida this week. Whilst perpetually frustrated that brave comrades like Waida choose to remain in the Labour Party (when they deserve much better; Labour is after all a Party which itself is guilty of the worst racism and criminality) – Red Youth stands shoulder to shoulder with Waida and Harlow TUC in calling for support for her in the face of these disgraceful attacks upon her person:

“Labour councillor Waida Forman has suffered many months of harassment and intimidation, which has affected her health, because she was the ONLY councillor who attended an SWP/UAF initiated protest in defence of Travellers.

Cllr Forman, also Chair of Harlow TUC, gave the SWP/UAF handsome support in the campaign to defend equality. She attended the public meetings at Park Inn hotel in September 2014 and at the Civic Centre on 17 March and spoke in defence of Travellers having a long-standing need for a secure place to live.

Cllr Forman also wrote letters to Harlow Star and spoke in debate in both Group and Full council meetings to defend a principle of equal rights and fair treatment of Travellers.

Cllr Forman has now, after many months of a concerted campaign to harass and intimidate her, been racially abused by Malcolm Mitchell, the self-appointed leader of the anti-Traveller campaign in Harlow. Mr Mitchell used his Facebook group to incite people to trespass upon Cllr Forman’s home, commit criminal damage including defecating everywhere and racially abused her by saying: “let’s see how the Nigger likes it.”

The motion condemning such racist abuse goes before full council meeting commencing at 7.30 on 24 September and can be seen at the bottom of this email.

If some of you are not prepared to support a Labour councillor who has been generous in giving support for your causes – including defending public services, stopping Blacklisting and the closure of HWRA – when they’ve been racially abused, then you will show your indifference to a valuable ally.

The consequences of this indifference will be to give confidence to racists and fascists to intimidate elected councillors and trade union officials in the certain knowledge that they will not get the support they deserve from the labour movement.

In the event of poor support on 24 September, Labour councillors and Harlow TUC will naturally have cause to reconsider their relationship with people who start something but who are unable to deliver visible support to a brave councillor who carried the greatest burden for them.”

Motion to Harlow Council:
CONDEMNATION FOR DISCRIMINATORY COMMENTS
“This Council condemns the racist language and incitement to aggression against Councillor Waida Forman by the leaders of the campaign against Travellers and offers the full support of the Council to any Councillor coming under such attacks.

We call on all local political leaders to disassociate their organisations from those indulging in discriminatory rhetoric that only serves as cover for such racist attitudes.”

Wigan Diggers Festival 2015: Revolutionary British History!

Wigan Diggers Festival March
Wigan Diggers Festival March

Red Youth and CPGB-ML attended the Wigan Diggers festival on Saturday, remembering another aspect of the people’s British history, rather than the bourgeois narratives that seek to erase the rich heritage of workers in this country and abroad.

"The Earth was made a common treasury for all"It is vital to revive the knowledge of our rebellious history and traditions in order to inform and enthuse our current working class struggle. Throughout the ages oppressed peoples have fought valiantly against their oppressors, and in victory or defeat they have left us a legacy we must continue!

The Wigan festival celebrates Gerrard Winstanley, from Wigan, and the True Levellers (known as the Diggers), a radical Protestant movement that sought to utilise common land for the benefit of the poorest elements of society, who could not survive without subsistence farming, at a time when food prices were exceptionally high. They arose during the civil war in the 17th century and presented perhaps the most radical ideology of their time.

Winstanley and the Diggers based their ideology on certain passages in the bible,  which is best summarised in one of their most memorable quotes: “the Earth was made a common treasury for all”. While it was not possible for them to have developed a socialist theory on the exploitation of the peasantry and labourers at the time, as neither the material conditions nor the schools of philosophy resulting from them existed at the time, it was a noble and notable diggers1proto-socialist movement based on a philosophy of primitive agrarian communism.

Ultimately, the Diggers drew the aggression of landowners and the government, with their communities and communal property coming under violent attack from landlords before being ordered off the land by the courts, with the threat of armed reprisal if they did not comply. While the rest of British society adapted to parliamentarianism and the development of the bourgeoisie, the True Leveller movement dissipated.

The Wigan Diggers festival is a fantastic celebration of working people’s history, and Red Youth and the CPGB-ML are proud to continue to support it.

Who Created the Refugee Crisis?

This Saturday a huge demonstration swept through the streets of London, with around 300,000 people marching from Marble Arch to Parliament Square to show solidarity with refugees, and to demand better treatment for asylum seekers in Britain and across the EU. The protesters were addressed at Parliament Square by Jeremy Corbyn, as his first official act as the newly elected Labour Party leader, proclaiming his support for the plight of the refugees.

Aylan Kurdi
The image of Syrian toddler Aylan Kurdi that sparked fiercer support for refugees trying to find safety in Europe

The conscience of the British people has been moved by the picture of the tragically drowned 3 year old Syrian child, Aylan Kurdi, lying on a Turkish beach, along with his mother and brother, while the family was fleeing from the horrors being inflicted in Kobane by the terrorist ISIS organisation – spawned by Anglo-American imperialism in its attempts to overthrow Syria’s legitimate elected government headed by President Assad.

As the British people came to realise that these deaths were only the tip of an iceberg of death and suffering visited upon fleeing refugees, they petitioned the government in huge numbers to welcome refugees, and the British government has responded by promising to take in some 5,000 a year, though it was soon made clear that this grudging minimalist concession is to be curtailed in every way possible, with those admitted under the age of 18 to be deported as soon as they reach that age.

Indian Workers in Britain – 50th Anniversary of the IWA (GB)

The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain), has played a significant role in the British working class movement over the last 60 years. The Grenwich & Bexley Heath branch of the Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) held this meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of their branch. (1:34)

IWA

Harpal Brar, National organiser of the IWA (GB), and chairman of the CPGB-ML gives a landmark speech reflecting on the history of the IWA (GB). The organisation was able, in its time, to organise demonstrations of tens and hundreds of thousands of workers, and regularly held meetings of 4-5,00 members and supporters, throughout the country.

Calais Migrants

The Refugee Crisis In Calais

Part of the camp of the refugees and migrants near Calais
Part of the camp of the refugees and migrants near Calais
British newspapers have been screaming (or whatever the written equivalent is) and raging about the very fabric of our society being irredeemably destroyed by 3,000 or so immigrants in a camp known as the jungle in Calais. This is where people who have suffered great losses in terms of friends, family, lifestyle, their homes, even their homelands, and having travelled halfway around the world against bitter odds, have gathered for a final attempt to enter the UK in a bid to regain some of the aspirations and dignity that have been cruelly ripped from them. These people represent most warzones in the world where British and US imperialism have sent their ‘hero’ pilots to rain bombs indiscriminately from miles above ground or have used their proxy armies in the shape of IS, al-Nusra and others to terrorise, torture and murder those who won’t bow before the imperialist parasites. And it is these same imperialist parasites who are driving the planet towards world war three in an effort to solve, if only for a very short time, the contradictions of capitalism that are ravaging balance sheets and proving the unsuitability of their totally outdated system as an economic and political plan for furthering, or even maintaining, the current level of human development.
